Social Space - Music

Lounging in the velvet chair, feeling it's soft arms mould themselves to your shape, you sink into it's comforting depths and close your eyes. Sounds wash over you, an accordion waltzes through a lazy, sleepy tune. Letting all your muscles relax, you release yourself to the music. A deep rumbling voice begins to accompany the accordion, gently roaring through a strange melody, almost off key. Hairs on the back of your neck raise, and the skin of your arms ripple over with goose bumps. The song picks up pace, the voice changes from dripping honey to thundering waterfall and opening your eyes you see dancers taking their places in the centre of the room.

Couples clasp each other around the waist, hands engaged in the classic tango position, and as the melody slides into a tango rhythm they begin to dance, twirling each other around in passionate movements, dresses snapping as they are whipped out in a swirl. The song ends and as the dancers cease their performance a new beat begins, and after a few seconds there is a frenzied dash to the dance-floor, the seated, the comfortable, the quiet and the loud all join, as they recognise one of their favourite songs. Letting go of all inhibitions they give themselves to the music, their limbs thrashing and bodies POPPING. Seemingly almost against their will they are pulled by the music, an arm, a leg, a hip and a flick of the hair thrown in time with the beat. Next to you, a woman sways, eyes closed, wine glass in hand as she becomes one with the music. Letting it consume her completely, she is transported to another dimension, her face a perfect picture of serenity and blissful passion

The music alternately swells and dissipates, moving from the gentle, the slow and the haunting to the pumping, the intense and the energetic and back again.

Moving images pulse, swirl and flash in time with the rhythm of the music.
